Premium Interior Painting
This Is What a Finished Room Is Supposed to Feel Like
Interior painting is about more than color on a wall. It’s the difference between a room that feels complete and one that’s just covered. The right prep, the right product, and the right application turn a space you tolerate into one you’re genuinely glad to be in, every single day.
Prodigy Painting has spent over 15 years getting that part right. We’re an EPA Lead Certified Contractor, which means we handle older Twin Cities homes the way they deserve to be handled, carefully and correctly. Every estimate names the product we’re using, every scope is written down before a brush touches your walls, and every job ends with a room handed back to you the way it looked in your head when you started.
How We Do It
Our Interior Painting Process
-
Step One
Walkthrough and Written Estimate
We walk the space with you before anything is scheduled. Every estimate names the products we're using, the number of coats, and the full scope of prep. No vague line items, no surprises after the job starts. -
Step Two
Surface Prep
We clean and degrease surfaces, fill holes and cracks, sand where needed, caulk gaps, and spot-prime any bare areas. Eighty percent of paint failures trace back to prep that was rushed or skipped entirely. We don't skip it. -
Step Three
Protection and Masking
Furniture is moved to the center of the room and covered. Floors get drop cloths. Trim, fixtures, and anything adjacent to painted surfaces is properly masked before a brush comes out. -
Step Four
Paint Application
Two coats, cut in and rolled, using the premium product specified in your estimate. Sheen is matched to the room: flat or matte on ceilings and low-traffic walls, eggshell through satin on living areas, semi-gloss on trim and doors. -
Step Five
Final Walkthrough and Handoff
We walk every room with you at the end. Any punch-list items get handled before we leave. Leftover paint is labeled by room so you have it for future touch-ups.
Why Prodigy Painting
Preparation Is Where Premium Results Actually Start
Most paint failures, peeling, bubbling, uneven sheen, trace back to one thing: prep that got rushed or skipped entirely. That's the part homeowners usually can't see, which is exactly why it's where corners get cut. At Prodigy Painting, prep is non-negotiable. Every surface is cleaned, sanded, primed, and ready before any finish coat goes on. We specify premium products by name in your estimate so there's no guessing about what's going on your walls, and our labor warranty backs the finished result, not just the paint manufacturer's promise. Over 15 years of work across the Twin Cities, and our reputation is built on projects that still look great years later.
See How We WorkHow much does interior painting cost in the Twin Cities?
Most interior painting is priced per room or per square foot of floor area. Walls alone typically run about $2 to $6 per square foot, and a standard 12×12 bedroom commonly lands between $400 and $1,000 for walls only. Ceilings, trim, and doors are usually separate line items. The biggest variables are wall height, how much repair the surface needs, how dramatic the color change is, and the product tier. Two quotes that look very different almost always come down to prep depth and paint quality, not labor alone.
How long does interior painting take?
A typical room takes one to two days including prep and two coats. A whole-house interior with a crew usually runs three to seven working days depending on size and scope. Heavy drywall repair adds time, since compound has to dry fully before sanding and priming. Latex paint is dry to the touch in about an hour and can be recoated in two to four hours, but full cure takes two to four weeks. Until then, clean gently and keep furniture off walls.
What paint finish should I use for interior walls?
Flat or matte works best on ceilings and walls in low-traffic rooms because it hides surface flaws well, though it’s the least washable option. Eggshell is the go-to for most living areas and bedrooms. Satin holds up better in kitchens, bathrooms, hallways, and kids’ rooms. Semi-gloss is standard on trim and doors because it’s durable and easy to wipe down. Higher sheens are more washable but show wall texture and roller marks more, so the right choice depends on how much traffic the surface sees.
Do you handle homes with lead paint?
Yes. Prodigy Painting is an EPA Lead Certified Contractor. Homes built before 1978 often have lead paint on walls, trim, and ceilings, and paid work disturbing more than six square feet per room requires an EPA RRP-certified firm following lead-safe practices: containing the work area, using approved methods, and verifying cleanup afterward. We take care of that process for you so you don’t have to sort through what applies to your home.
What should I do to prepare before you arrive?
Remove valuables, wall hangings, and small decorative items before we start. Our crew typically moves larger furniture to the center of the room and covers it, and we protect floors with drop cloths. If there are items you’d prefer to handle yourself, just let us know during the walkthrough and we’ll plan around it.
